Participants in this training will be introduced to the benefits of digital sharing and how to incoporate it in the elementary classroom. Participants will be exposed to many different digital sharing websites or software applications. Participants will explore the importance of digital citizenship and positive digital footprints.
Audience:
The audience is elementary teachers in Montgomery County Public Schools who have average computer skills and are able to create a digital presentation without step-by-step directions.
Prerequisite Knowledge Required:
Participants will need average computer skills and be able to create a digital presentation without step-by-step directions. They will need to have average keyboarding skills and the ability to upload images from the Interent.
Workshop Goals and Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
Identify the benefits of digital sharing
Compare examples of traditional writing projects and digital presentations
Create a digital presentation that introduces themselves
Identify the safety issues associated with digital sharing
Identify what digital citizenship is
Create a Padlet that demonstrates three ideas about digital citizenship
Create a Prezi sharing concerns about digital sharing
Create a Glogster describing what a digital footprint is
Identify what digital etiquette or netiquette is
Create Powtoon about the benefits of using digital sharing with elementary students instead of (in addition to) traditional writing
Create a simple Kidspiration 3 on digital etiiquette or netiquette
Identify the importance of citing sources
Create a simple Google Doc (Slide) or Thinglink about citing sources with elementary students
Create a culminating digital presentation from the information on the CyberSmart website
Schedule and Outline:
Day 1 - Benefits of Digital Sharing
On Day 1, participants will explore the benefits of digital sharing and compare examples of traditional writing projects vs. digital presentations. Participants will introduce themselves using a digital presenation.
Day 2 - Safety with digital sharing using Padlet
On Day 2, participants will explore the importance of safety and digital citizenship when using digital sharing. Participants will view two videos about digital citizenship and create a Padlet that demonstrates three ideas about digital citizenship.
Day 3 - Concerns about digital sharing and positive digital footprints using the digital presentations, Prezi and Glogster
On Day 3, participants will share their concerns about digital sharing and make a presentation about their concerns in Prezi. Participants will define what a digital footprint is and make a Glogster about digital footprints.
Day 4 - Digital etiquette or netiquette using Powtoon and Kidspiration 3
On Day 4, participants will create a simple Powtoon about the benefits of using digital sharing with elementary students instead of (or in addition t0) traditional writing projects. Participants will create a simple Kidspiration 3 on digital etiquette or netiquette.
Day 5 -Citing Sources using Google Docs (Slides) and Thinglink and information on the CyberSmart website
On Day 5, participants will identify the importance of citing sources in the elementary classroom. Partcipants will create a simple Google Doc (Slide) or Thinglink about citing sources and also a culminating presentation from the information found on the CyberSmart website.

at least one video (which can replace the image in one cirlce)
at least one fade-in effect

two images about digital footprints
one video
at least two text boxes
Exit Cards:
Each day (Day 1-4) participants will complete an exit card. Participants will make a Voki (on Voki.com), Vocaroo (on Vocaroo.com) or a Blabberize (on Blabberize.com) to respond to the exit card question/s. They will also add one "plus" and one "delta" for today's lesson. Participants are asked to mbed or post the link to their Voki, Vocaroo or Blabberize on the homework section for that day.
Homework:
Homework will be given each day (Day 1-4) and need to be completed before the next session. Each homework assignment involves creating a simple digital presentation that will be shared with the group during the following day's warm-up activity.
